PROTECTING THOSE WHO CANNOT PROTECT THEMSELVES: INSIGHTS INTO THE MENTAL CAPACITY ACT (11.30am – 1.00pm)
The four authors will examine how the Act safeguards individuals who lack mental capacity and how it has evolved to meet the needs of an ageing and more inclusive society. This seminar also commemorates 15 years of this key legislation in Singapore.

To mark the 15th anniversary of the enactment of the Singapore Mental Capacity Act (MCA), this seminar will delve into the legal framework designed to protect individuals aged 21 and above who lack the mental capacity to make decisions independently.

The four authors aim to provide a clear and practical understanding of the Act’s provisions and its evolving role in an ageing and more inclusive society. Key topics include assessing mental capacity, appointing decision-makers, and the safeguards in place to ensure the welfare and best interests of vulnerable individuals.
