The Data and Digital Economy (D2E) Law series will encompass 3-hour structured training sessions in various aspects of D2E law offered under the Data and Digital Economy Law Course for Legal and Industry Practitioners. Lawyers, corporate counsel and allied legal professionals practising or involved in this dynamic and amorphous space will find the sessions useful in navigating the complexities of technology and the law. Interested learners may choose to register for individual sessions covering a wide range of topics or all sessions under the Course.

This 3-hour session on Cybersecurity is part of the Data and Digital Economy Law Series. It looks at the common principles relating to identification of security risks and measures and controls required to guard against risks and meet compliance requirements. It will cover responses to cybersecurity threats and data breach management, risks relating to third-party service providers and partners, and laws and regulations.

Mr David Alfred

Director & Co-head, Data Protection, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice,

Drew & Napier LLC

 

David N. Alfred is Director and Co-head of the Data Protection, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice at Drew & Napier. He is concurrently Co-head and Programme Director of the Drew Data Protection & Cybersecurity Academy. David  has advised extensively on data protection and cybersecurity matters including policy and legislative affairs, development and implementation of management and compliance programmes, cross-border data transfers and data breaches (amongst others). David has also developed and delivered training programmes for organisations in various sectors. David was previously Chief Counsel to Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission.

David also actively supports the development of data protection law and practice. He is Adjunct Associate Professor with the National University of Singapore (NUS), Faculty of Law, where he teaches Global Data Privacy Law. He is also Co Vice-Chairperson of the Cybersecurity and Data Protection Committee of the Law Society of Singapore, a member of the Asia Advisory Board of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and an exco member of SGTech’s Digital Trust Committee.

David holds LLB and LLM degrees from NUS, an MBA from the University of Chicago and the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance. He also holds CIPP/A, CIPM and CIPT certifications and has been recognised as a Fellow of Information Privacy by the IAPP.

 

 

Mr Justin Blaze George
Cybersecurity & Privacy Counsel, AIG (APAC)

 

Justin is currently the APAC Head of Cyber Security and Privacy Legal at a large insurance MNC covering 17 countries. Justin previously served a similar role with one of the largest wealth management firms and has served as Deputy Chief Counsel at the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC). Prior to specialising in cybersecurity and data protection legal advice, Justin was in private practice specialising in Intellectual Property Law, including representing clients in patent and copyright litigation and providing legal advice in these areas.
