Covering topics traversing the Data and Digital Economy landscape, participants can look forward to expert instruction by respected practitioners in the field and become familiar with or gain greater understanding of this expansive practice area at the end of the course.
As this is not a basic course, participants should have at least 5 years of Data and Digital Economy Law/TMT practice experience. Non-legal professionals from the tech industry may also register but they should have a good foundation in this area of law, for example, by having attended executive TMT law courses. Participants are expected to be familiar with the basic concepts including governing laws and regulations.

Mr Ken Chia Ken Chia is a member of the Firm's IPTech, Global Trade & Commerce and Competition Practice Groups. He is regularly ranked as a leading ITC and competition lawyer by top legal directories. Ken is a regular speaker on data protection laws and is an IAPP Certified International Privacy Professional (FIP, CIPP(A), CIPT, CIPM). Assistant Professor Benjamin Joshua Ong Benjamin Joshua Ong is an Assistant Professor of Law at the Yong Pung How School of Law, Singapore Management University, where he currently serves as Director, Undergraduate Admissions. He graduated from the University of Oxford with the degrees of Bachelor of Arts (Jurisprudence) (First Class Honours) and Bachelor of Civil Law, and has been called to the Singapore Bar. He teaches and researches in the fields of constitutional and administrative law in Singapore and other Commonwealth jurisdictions, and has recently written about issues such as the legality/merits distinction in Singapore, the proportionality doctrine in Malaysia, and ouster clauses in the UK. He is also part of the team responsible for major updates to the recently-released Halsbury’s Laws of Singapore volumes on Constitutional Law and Administrative Law. At present, he is working on critical commentaries on recent developments in constitutional rights adjudication in Malaysia and Singapore. Benjamin also has a secondary interest in criminal procedure in Singapore; in 2021, he appeared before the High Court as amicus curiae in Parti Liyani v Public Prosecutor to make submissions on compensation for allegedly frivolous or vexatious prosecution. |

Mr Lim Chong Kin Chong Kin practises corporate and commercial law with strong emphasis in the areas of TMT, regulatory and competition law. He is also a pioneer in the practice of data protection & cybersecurity laws, where he set up the practice group and was responsible for growing it to become a market leading practice. Since 1999, he has played a key role in the liberalisation of various strategic industries in Singapore, including the telecommunications, media, and postal markets. He assisted in the development of the licensing/regulatory frameworks and drafting of the sectoral competition laws for these sectors, and continues to routinely advise various sectoral regulators on liberalisation, market access, licensing, competition regulation, merger reviews and enforcement issues, including successfully defending the regulators in Ministerial appeals. Dr Corinne Chew Corinne’s competition law experience extends to all areas of competition law practice, including assisting clients in the filing of merger notifications to the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS), leniency applications and assisting clients with CCCS investigations. Corinne has assisted multi-national and local companies in setting up competition law compliance and audit structures, dawn raid and whistle-blowing programmes and conducting audit checks for companies in a wide range of industries in Singapore and other jurisdictions in the ASEAN region. Corinne has also assisted in the drafting of sectoral competition codes and guidelines and has advised regulators and industry on sectoral competition codes in the telecommunications, media, energy, aviation, transport and financial services sectors. Mr Steve Tan Steve is a Partner and Deputy Head in Rajah & Tann Singapore’s TMT (Technology, Media and Telecommunications) practice group. Steve practices Data Protection, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Intellectual Property, and Digital Media / Entertainment law. Mr David Alfred David N. Alfred is Director and Co-head of the Data Protection, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice at Drew & Napier. He is concurrently Co-head and Programme Director of the Drew Data Protection & Cybersecurity Academy. David has advised extensively on data protection and cybersecurity matters including policy and legislative affairs, development and implementation of management and compliance programmes, cross-border data transfers and data breaches (amongst others). David has also developed and delivered training programmes for organisations in various sectors. David was previously Chief Counsel to Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission. David also actively supports the development of data protection law and practice. He is Adjunct Associate Professor with the National University of Singapore (NUS), Faculty of Law, where he teaches Global Data Privacy Law. He is also Co Vice-Chairperson of the Cybersecurity and Data Protection Committee of the Law Society of Singapore, a member of the Asia Advisory Board of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and an exco member of SGTech’s Digital Trust Committee. Mr Justin Blaze George Justin is currently the APAC Head of Cyber Security and Privacy Legal at a large insurance MNC covering 17 countries. Justin previously served a similar role with one of the largest wealth management firms and has served as Deputy Chief Counsel at the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC). Prior to specialising in cybersecurity and data protection legal advice, Justin was in private practice specialising in Intellectual Property Law, including representing clients in patent and copyright litigation and providing legal advice in these areas. |

Mr Michael Tan Michael Tan leads the APAC Cloud legal team and is part of Google’s APAC Legal Management team. Before his current role he also led Google’s commercial legal team for SEA and South Asia. During his time at Google, he’s worked on some of Google’s most complex and important commercial deals across the breadth of Google’s products, including Advertising, Android, Payments, Search, Maps and Enterprise. Mike has over 20 years of legal experience, and has been working in the Tech industry for the majority of that time. Before joining Google in 2008, he was with Yahoo!, which he joined in 2006 after cutting his teeth in legal roles covering both in house and private practice. Mike was a Member of the Legal Technology Cluster of the Singapore Academy of Law where he contributed to the “Singapore Technology Masterplan 2017”, and has spoken on a wide range of topics including from Cloud Computing, Payment systems, and AI regulation. |

Associate Professor Warren B Chik Warren Chik is an Associate Professor with the Yong Pung How School of Law at Singapore Management University. He is also the Deputy Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Data Governance. Warren researches, writes and teaches primarily in the areas of infocomm technology law, Internet intermediaries law, privacy and data protection. He also leads the business law module for the University. He graduated from NUS Law School in 1996 and has Masters degrees from UCL (UK) and Tulane (US) with specialisations in comparative and international law. Warren practiced in criminal and international law with the AGC criminal and international divisions before joining Academia. He also passed the bar in Singapore, the UK and New York. Warren is the co-author of Information and Communications Technology Law in Singapore (Academy Publishing, 2020) which is the first textbook on the subject in Singapore and has published many articles in the area in reputable local and international journals including the Singapore Academy of Law Journal, Computer Law & Security Review and the International Journal of Law & Technology. |

Mr Joey Pang Joey is a technology lawyer and legal technologist with DBS Bank. In his day to day work, Joey spends his time between three broad areas vis., (a) legal and compliance advisory on the bank’s technology, procurement, and anti-money laundering initiatives, (b) advocacy efforts on regulatory issues relating to emergent technology such as data innovation, data ethics and AI governance, and (c) transformation projects within the bank that brings about new capabilities and ways of working for legal and compliance functions. Beyond his work at DBS, Joey is actively involved in a number of professional committees, bodies and engagement. He is the deputy chair for the AI Ethics and Governance Certification Committee convened by the Singapore Computer Society and IMDA, vice-chair of the Cybersecurity and Data Protection Committee and a member of the Continuing Professional Development and Information Technology committees of the Law Society of Singapore. Assistant Professor Nydia Remolina Nydia Remolina is an Assistant Professor of Law at Singapore Management University where she leads the research group on FinTech at the Centre for AI and Data Governance. Nydia focuses her research on the intersection of law, finance and technology. She has more than 10 years of experience in the financial sector, has been a Senior Advisor to the OECD. and she worked at Sullivan & Cromwell’s New York Office. Nydia has a Master in the Science of Law (JSM) from Stanford University, and is completing her PhD in Law at the University of Zurich. Ms Arianne Jimenez Arianne is a Privacy & Public Policy Manager for the Asia Pacific for Meta. She’s responsible for helping drive the company’s strategy and engagement in the region on privacy policy and data-driven innovation. She is also involved in evaluating and responding to legislative and regulatory developments around privacy and emerging technologies, providing advice on product, feature, and policy development, and building initiatives focused on privacy and emerging technologies, including AI. She brings both an academic and industry perspective, having specialized in privacy law for her Doctor of the Science of Law (J.S.D.) degree, which she obtained from the University of California – Berkeley School of Law. Her doctoral dissertation was on Working Towards a Data Protection Soft Law Framework for the ASEAN Region. She obtained her Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the same institution, where she obtained a Certificate of Specialization in Intellectual Property and Technology Law. During her time in Berkeley, she was also a Graduate Tutor and a Research Assistant, focusing her efforts on legal research and writing, and US privacy. During her legal career in the Philippines, from which she hails, she clerked for a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, worked as Legal Counsel and Data Protection Officer for a tech company, and taught law subjects at De La Salle University. She has also published articles on intellectual property law and cyberlaw. |

Dr Stanley Lai SC Dr Stanley Lai, SC is the Head of Allen & Gledhill LLP’s Intellectual Property Practice and Co-Head of the firm’s Cybersecurity & Data Protection Practice. Stanley specialises in all forms of IP litigation and information technology disputes, and is also a commercial/chancery litigator. Stanley is currently the Chairman of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore. He is also a member of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre IP Panel and Singapore Copyright Tribunal. He has published extensively on IP and information technology law, including the monograph, “The Copyright Protection of Computer Software in the United Kingdom”. Stanley serves as a Senior Mediator of the Singapore Mediation Centre and as a Specialist Mediator in the Singapore International Mediation Centre. He is an Administrative Panellist at the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre, a member of the Market Surveillance and Compliance Panel (National Electricity Market of Singapore) and is currently the Commissioner of the Government Procurement Adjudication Tribunal. After graduating from the University of Leicester with an LL.B. (Hons) degree in 1992, Stanley was called to the Bar of England and Wales, Lincoln's Inn in 1993 and obtained an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge in 1994. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 1995 before commencing his Ph.D. research in the field of technology law and computer software copyright to become the first Singapore-born lawyer to be conferred a Ph.D. in Law from the University of Cambridge. In January 2010, Stanley was appointed Senior Counsel. He was awarded the Public Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Masyarakat) at the Singapore National Day Awards 2020. |
