Professor Leong Wai Kum Leong Wai Kum graduated with Bachelor of Laws (Class 1) from University of Malaya Kuala Lumpur in 1976. She entered on a University Entrance Scholarship in 1972, won Senior Scholarships in 1973, 1974 and 1975, the Moot Court Prize in 1973, several University Subject Prizes and graduated as top student as the first Lord President’s Scholar. She joined the Faculty of Law University of Singapore in 1976 and proceeded to read her Master of Laws at Harvard University in 1979. As teacher she contemplated upon the theory and conceptual bases of family law and worked on rationally relating its components. She contributed private representations to the Select Committees of Parliament on the Women’s Charter (Amendment) Bills No. 23 of 1979 and No. 5 of 1996. Today she proudly points to areas of family life that she believes are better regulated in Singapore than most common law jurisdictions. At the School of Law Singapore University of Social Sciences she brings her experience to offer an integrated course so students appreciate that theory, substance and procedure do work hand-in-glove. |
