Your use of this Website is subject to the following terms and conditions (Terms and Conditions) which you are deemed to accept by using this Website.
These Terms and Conditions apply to the use of all online services operated by the Academy, except where superseded by service-specific terms and conditions on the pages linked on this page. In the event of any conflict, the terms on those pages take precedence.

1.1 The Academy will endeavour to allow you uninterrupted access to this Website, but access to this Website may be disrupted, restricted, suspended or terminated at any time at its discretion or for reasons beyond its control.

1.2 The Academy reserves the right to improve, change, modify, substitute or remove any information on this Website,
or terminate this Website, at any time without notice.

1.3 Any communication or material that you transmit to this Website or to the Academy by electronic mail or otherwise, including any comments, data, questions and suggestions, is and will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary. The Academy may preserve any such content and may disclose it to third parties if required to do so by law or in the
good faith belief that such preservation or disclosure is necessary to comply with legal process; respond to claims that the content violates the rights of third parties; enforce these Terms and Conditions; or protect the rights, property or personal safety of this Website and its users. The provision of personal information by you and use of it by the Academy is subject to the Academy’s Privacy Policy which is incorporated in these Terms and Conditions.

1.4 The Academy does not review any third-party web pages or websites hyperlinked to this Website and is not responsible for the content of any such off-site pages or sites. If you visit such off-site pages or sites through this Website, you do so at your own risk.

2. Intellectual Property

2.1 Unless otherwise indicated the copyright, database right and rights of an allied nature in the material contained in the Website, together with the website design, text and graphics, and their selection and arrangement, belong to the Academy. All rights are reserved. None of this material may be reproduced or redistributed without its prior written
permission. You may, however, download or print a single copy for your own non-commercial off-line viewing.

2.2 You agree that any logos, names, service marks, trade marks and other devices (collectively referred to as “Marks”) pertaining to the Academy that may be displayed on this Website, including but not limited to the circular crest and motto of the Academy, “LawNet”, “LawNet Asia”, “Singapore Academy of Law”, “Academy Library”, “SAL”and “Singapore Law Reports” , are its registered and/or unregistered Marks. Nothing contained on this Website should be construed as granting, by implication, estoppel, or otherwise, any licence or right to use any of the Marks belonging to it or to third parties that are displayed on this Website without prior written permission.

2.3 Certain product and company names mentioned on this Website or material displayed on this Website may be intellectual property belonging to third parties. The Academy does not warrant or represent that if you use such material you will not infringe the legal rights of these third parties.

3. Exclusions of Liability

3.1 The Academy uses reasonable endeavours to ensure that the information on the Website is accurate and to correct any errors or omissions as soon as practicable after being notified of them. However, to the extent permitted by applicable law, it disclaims all warranties and representations (whether express or implied) as to the accuracy of any
information contained on this Website.

3.2 Due to the nature of electronic transmission of data over the Internet, the Academy does not warrant:

3.2.1 that access to this Website will be fault-free, secure, timely or uninterrupted, or that the Website will be free from software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment; or

3.2.2 the accurate receipt or security of any information transmitted by you by electronic mail or otherwise to the Website or the Academy.

Accordingly, your use of this Website, and the electronic transmission of any document or information by you to the Website or the Academy is at your own risk.

3.3 The liability of the Academy and/or of any other party involved in creating, producing or delivering this Website (the ‘Web Programmer’) for any damages, claims or losses arising from an inability to access this Website, or from any use of this Website or reliance on the data transmitted using this Website, is excluded to the fullest extent permissible by law. In no event shall the Academy or the Web Programmer be liable for any anticipated savings, business, goodwill, loss of profit, opportunity, revenues or other direct, indirect, consequential, incidental or special loss or damage of any kind, whether arising from breach of contract, tort (including negligence, defamation and infringement of copyright or database right or other intellectual property rights) or otherwise arising out of use of this Website, whether or not notified of such damage or loss arising, except where such liability cannot be excluded by law.

3.4 On this Website, the Academy may from time to time provide you with information on third-party suppliers and the goods and services they deal in and/or the events that they organise. Any goods, services or events not stated to be provided or organised by it are provided by such third parties over whom it has no control. Nothing on this Website should be construed as an endorsement by or recommendation from the Academy to buy any products or services featured or to participate in any events. You should satisfy yourself that you wish to purchase the goods or services or participate in the events in question before contracting with the suppliers. The suppliers will deal with you on their own
terms and conditions and you should check that you agree to those terms and conditions before making any financial commitment. The Academy accepts no liability for any goods or services provided or events organised by such third-party suppliers.

3.5 The Academy does not monitor, verify or endorse information submitted by third parties for posting on this Website. You should be aware that such information may be inaccurate, incomplete or out of date.

3.6 The Academy endeavours to prepare the content of the Website in accordance with Singapore law. It does not warrant that the Website will satisfy the laws of any jurisdiction other than Singapore.

3.7 Without limiting the foregoing, everything on this Website is provided to you “as available” and “as is”, and the Academy disclaims to the fullest extent permissible by law any representation, warranty or responsibility of any kind, either express or implied, in relation to any information, goods or services offered, accessed or obtained through this
Website. It also makes no representations or warranties, express or implied, with respect to this Website, or any part of it, including any warranties of title, non-infringement of the intellectual property rights of third parties, merchantability, satisfactory quality, or fitness for any purpose.

4. Acceptable Use

4.1 You may only use the Website in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and, in any event, for lawful and proper purposes which includes complying with all applicable laws, regulations and codes of practice within Singapore or other jurisdictions from which you are accessing this Website.

4.2 In particular, you agree that you will not:

4.2.1 upload, post, e-mail or otherwise transmit to the Website or to the Academy:

4.2.1.1 any content that is abusive, defamatory, harassing, harmful, invasive of privacy, objectionable (due to attitudes towards disability; gender; race, descent, ethnicity or nationality; religion or belief; sexual orientation; or other personal characteristics), obscene, threatening, tortious or unlawful, or otherwise use this Website in a manner which causes or may cause an infringement of the rights of any third party;

4.2.1.2 any content that you do not have a right to transmit under any law (including content that infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party), or under contractual or fiduciary relationships (such as confidential or proprietary information learned or disclosed as part of employment relationships or under non-disclosure agreements); and

4.2.1.3 any unsolicited or unauthorised advertising or promotional materials or any other form of solicitation, including but not limited to chain letters, junk mail and spam;

4.2.2 impersonate any person or entity, falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity, or take any action to disguise the origin of any content transmitted to the Website or to the Academy;

4.2.3 use any software, routine or device to interfere or attempt to interfere electronically or manually with the operation or functionality of this Website, including but not limited to uploading or making available through whatever means files containing corrupt data, software viruses or any computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment;

4.2.4 deface, alter or interfere with the front-end “look and feel” of this Website or the underlying software code;

4.2.5 take any action which imposes an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on this Website or its related
infrastructure;

4.2.6 obtain or attempt to obtain unauthorised access, through whatever means, to any of computers, networks or servers owned or used by the Academy; and/or

4.2.7 collect or store personal information about other users of the Website.

4.3 You may only use the Website in the capacity of an end-user. You must not, without the prior written permission of the Academy:

4.3.1 sell, resell or otherwise exploit; copy or reproduce for the purpose of such sale, resale or exploitation; or carry out an act preparatory to any of the foregoing acts in respect of; any portion of the Website, or documents or information obtained from the Website; or

4.3.2 access or use the Website;

for providing database, information, service-bureau or other commercial services to third parties.

4.4 Without prejudice to any of our other rights, whether at law or otherwise, the Academy reserves the right to deny you access to this Website where it believes in its absolute discretion that you are in breach of any of these Terms and Conditions.

4.5 You agree to indemnify and hold the Academy, its subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, employees and agents, harmless from any claim or demand, including legal fees on an indemnity basis, made by any third party due to or arising out of your use of this Website; content you submit, post to or transmit to the Website or to the Academy; or your violation of these Terms and Conditions or of the rights of any third party.

5. Miscellaneous

5.1 These Terms and Conditions contain all the terms of your agreement with the Academy relating to your use of the Website, and supersede any prior agreements, if any, between you and the Academy.

5.2 The Academy may modify these Terms and Conditions at any time. Such modification shall be effective immediately upon posting of the modified Terms and Conditions on this Website. Accordingly, your continued or subsequent access or use of this Website shall be deemed to be your acceptance of the modified Terms and Conditions.

The Academy reserves the right to assign or novate these Terms and Conditions to any entity and such assignment or novation shall be effective upon posting on this Website. Where necessary, you agree to execute all documents as the Academy may reasonably request to perfect any such assignment or novation. Such right to assignment shall include the right to assign, novate or transfer all licenses and / or any other permits, consents and / or approvals granted under these Terms and Conditions.

5.3 You agree that notices and legal process may be sent to you or served on you either personally, through the post, or by e-mail.

5.4 The failure of the Academy to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms and Conditions shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, you agree that the court should endeavour to give effect to the parties’ intentions as reflected in the provision, and that the other provisions of these Terms and Conditions remain in full force and effect.

5.6 The section headings in these Terms and Conditions are for convenience only and have no legal or contractual effect.

5.7 Your use of this Website, any downloaded material from it and the operation of these Terms and Conditions shall be governed by, construed and interpreted in accordance with the laws of Singapore and you agree to submit to the non- exclusive jurisdiction of the Singapore Courts. The Academy reserves the right, if it sees fit, to bring proceedings in the courts of the country of your residence.

5.8 The Academy and you shall not by virtue of these Terms and Conditions be deemed to be a partner or agent of each other and nothing contained in these Terms and Conditions shall be construed as creating a partnership, joint association or trust and neither party shall be authorised to represent or bind the other to third parties.

5.9 None of these Terms and Conditions shall be enforceable under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act (Cap 53B) by a person who is not a party to it.

Academy Publishing’s products:

Orders and Payment Methods for Academy publishing’s products:

  1. Online through the Lawnet Store

    For GIRO payment, the amount due will be deducted on the 25th of each month from the designated bank
    account. If the 25th falls on a Sunday or public holiday, the deduction will be made on the next working day.

Members’ prices for publications shall not apply to the following:

  1. Members who are on membership fee waiver; and

For Print Purchases Only:

  1. Books ordered via the Lawnet store will be shipped or delivered within one work week from the date of
    order, upon receipt of full payment.
  2. All local orders are entitled to free delivery.

Claims

  1. For law books and journals
    Please e-mail us at sales@lawnet.com if you have not received your book after:
    a. one work week from the date of payment made through the Lawnet Store bookshop or through GIRO
    b. four work weeks from the date of payment made through e-invoice
    c. five work weeks from the date of payment made through cheques issued in foreign currency if any.

Returns, Refunds and Cancellations

  1. For Academy Publishing products, there's no refund for digital products. Refunds for books and journals ordered will only be made in exceptional circumstances. If you cancel an order within three working days from the date of order and return the book(s) to us in a saleable condition, as determined by SAL at our discretion, SAL will issue a credit to you for the full amount of the purchase price(s) and related GST (minus the shipping and handling charges), which you may apply towards future orders. Cancellations must be made to us in writing at sales@lawnet.com
  2. Refunds will be issued by crediting the amount to your bank account. We will need you to fill in a direct credit form. SAL Accounts will notify you via e-mail once the credit has been done.

To avoid delays in registration, please ensure that all registration details are clearly provided. Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability of seats. Priority will be accorded to registrations received with payment.

Members’ Price for Events:

  1. Members’ rates for registrations are not applicable to the following:
    a. members who are on membership fee waiver; and
    b. members who owe the Singapore Academy of Law S$500 or more for a period of 90 days or longer.
  2. These terms and conditions for Members’ rates are not applicable to online registrations made by Online Purchase Co-ordinator.

Payment

  1. Registration fees must be paid in full on or at least 1 week before the event start date (“closing date”) to ensure admission.
  2. Registrations received on or before the closing date are confirmed unless otherwise notified. In any case, e-mail confirmation will be sent upon confirmation of registration.
  3. Starting 22 June 2015, members who have GIRO arrangements will not be able to use this option on all transactions made on the Lawnet Store.
  4. For GIRO payment (if applicable), the amount due will be deducted on the 25th of each month from the designated bank account. If it falls on a Saturday, Sunday or Public Holiday, the deduction will be made on the next working day.

SDF Approved Courses

For Skills Development Fund (SDF) Approved Courses, please apply for SDF assistance at: http://www.skillsconnect.gov.sg. If the claim is for any reason rejected by Workforce Development Agency (WDA), SAL may recover the cost from the participant's company.

Refunds

  1. SAL will levy an administrative charge of S$21.40 (incl GST) on approved refunds and replacements.
  2. No refund of fees is available except for withdrawals made prior to the confirmation email; or withdrawals made after the confirmation email but more than 30 calendar days from the commencement of the session (‘permitted refunds’). Permitted refunds will be of the full course fee net of the SAL admin fee. There will be no refund for no-shows, who shall be required to make payment in full.
  3. SAL reserves the right to cancel an event or change the venue, speakers and dates, or revise the programme or fees should circumstances so warrant.

Transferring of registrations

  1. Registrations are transferable within the same organisation and same fee category. Please provide the name of the substitute at least two days in advance. If a non-member is nominated to attend in place of a member, the fee difference must be paid before the commencement of the event for the transfer to be valid.
  2. This requirement does not apply to transfers of online registrations made by an Online Purchase Co-ordinator.
  3. For events where certificates will be issued, participants will only receive a certificate if they attended the entire event.

Online Purchase Co-ordinator (“OPC”)

  1. An OPC account may be opened through the completion and return of the Form for Application for OPC Account with SAL.
  2. An OPC must be approved and appointed by his/her firm/organisation. SAL shall not be held responsible for any unauthorised registrations via the SAL website and SAL shall be entitled to full payment for such registrations.
  3. In case of a change in an OPC, the firm/organisation may transfer the existing UserID to the new authorised OPC and at the same time the password may be reset by the firm.
  4. An OPC has to ensure that the name(s) of participant(s) selected from the SAL website is/are correct before submitting an online registration. SAL reserves the right to reject any request for change in participant(s) and the registration shall remain payable in full.
  5. If an OPC opts for payment by cheque, cheque for the full amount due must be received by SAL within 14 days from the date of the online registration.
  6. If an OPC account is in arrears for more than 90 days, SAL reserves the right to disable the account.
  7. All other applicable terms and conditions stipulated herein on this SAL-e webpage shall apply to online registrations by OPC.

WSQ Programme

  1. Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) is committed on maintaining the confidentiality of the applicant’s personal information and undertakes not to reveal any of the applicant’s information to any 3rd party without prior written consent of the applicant.
  2. The registration form and payment must be submitted to SAL 14 days before the commencement of the programme.
  3. All prices for the programmes are subjected to GST (Goods and Services Tax).
  4. Training Grant from WDA
    - Applicant’s organization must be registered with WDA in order for your funding to be applicable.

  5. The programme schedule selected is subjected to confirmation. SAL reserves the rights to withdraw or re-schedule of the class without prior notice.
  6. Applicant shall be bound by the Terms and Conditions of any applicable funding scheme as approved by SAL. For funded programmes (E.g., SDF) an applicant will pay upfront the total fee at the point of application to SAL. Applicant needs to note that his/her application for funding claim will be rejected by the respective funding agency should he/she fail to meet any of the requirements set under the funding scheme (as stated below or otherwise),
    - Applicant achieves less than the minimum 75% attendance required by the programme.
    - Applicant fails to sit for the required assessment/s.
    - Applicant fails to achieve a “Competent” grade for the required assessment/s.
  7. Request for Replacement / Withdrawal from Programme:
    - For replacement of Applicant, a written notice, together with the full particulars of the new Applicant, must be submitted and received by SAL 14 days before commencement of the programme.
    - For withdrawal from the programme, a written notice must be submitted and received by SAL 14 days before commencement of the programme.
    - All requests will be subjected to approval. An administrative charge of S$ 21.40 (inclusive of GST) will be imposed for all approved refunds / withdrawals or replacement.
  8. With effect from 3 September 2018, SAL as an Approved Training Provider under the SSG Business Management Workforce Skills Qualifications Framework, will be required to submit your personal data to SSG to allow quality and outcome survey to be sent to you upon completion of a course. This survey will be sent to you via a survey system. Your personal data would include:
    a. Full NRIC Name
    b. FIN/NRIC Number
    c. ID Type i.e., NRIC/FIN/Others
    d. Date of Birth
    e. Email
    f. Address
    g. Mobile Number
  9. Post-Programme Survey (For selected Programmes):
    - A Post-Programme survey will be conducted for WSQ programmes. The first survey will be conducted 3 months after completion of the programme.
  10. Assessment:
    - Applicants are advised to be punctual on the day of examination / assessment, as he/she may be barred from taking the examination / assessment if they are late.
    - If the applicant is found cheating, SAL reserves the rights to take necessary actions including assessing them as “Not Yet Competent”.
    - If the applicant is found to be “Not Yet Competent” and wishes to appeal, he/she is to submit appeal form, with a fee of S$200.00, within 14 days of the result.
  11. Assessment:
    - Applicants are advised to be punctual on the day of examination / assessment, as he/she may be barred from taking the examination / assessment if they are late.
    - If the applicant is found cheating, SAL reserves the rights to take necessary actions including assessing them as “Not Yet Competent”.
    - If the applicant is found to be “Not Yet Competent” and wishes to appeal, he/she is to submit appeal form, with a fee of S$200.00, within 14 days of the result.
  12. e-Statement of Attainment (eSOA):
    - For the issuance of the e-Cert/e-Statement of Attainment (SOA), learners are to fulfill 75% total attendance and ensure that they sign on the Class Attendance sheet for the morning and afternoon sessions. In addition, you have to achieve ‘Competent’ upon completing the\ Assessments for the module.
    - Learners will receive a notification from WDA when the e-Cert/e-Statement of Attainment (SOA) is ready to be downloaded viawww.skillsconnect.gov.sg.

SkillsFuture Credit

Learners who wish to utilise their SkillsFuture Credit (SFC) to offset the course fees need to note the following.

  1. With effect from 21 April 2017 – Learners can submit their claims 60 days before event start date instead of 30 days
  2. With effect from 19 May 2017 - Learners have one option of payment i.e., amount deducted from learner’s SFC, will be disbursed to SAL directly.
  3. Learners who wish to utilise their SFC to offset the course fees need to submit a print screen of the SFC balance and notify SAL how much they wish to use. Whatever the balance amount may be, learners need to pay in full before their registration is processed and confirmed. Onus is on the learner to submit the actual balance of their SFC account to SAL.
  4. From 19 May 2017 - Should learners need to cancel their claims, they can do so up till the course start date itself. Should the learners withdraw once the class commencement email is sent out by SAL, a cancellation fee of S$ 21.40 (payable not by SFC) will be imposed.
  5. Learners will be responsible to cancel any submitted SFC claims before the course start date (due to their own cancellation/deference reasons).

Member Support Package - Additional Credit Dollar

Usage of additional credit dollar is only applicable for new transactions. No cancellations or refunds will be permitted for any transaction confirmed on or before 09 May 2020.
