This Website is hosted by the Singapore Academy of Law (“the Academy”). Your use of this Website is subject to the following terms and conditions (“Terms and Conditions”) which you are deemed to accept by using this Website.

These Terms and Conditions apply to the use of all online services operated by the Academy, except where superseded by service-specific terms and conditions on the pages linked on this page. In the event of any conflict, the terms on those pages take precedence.

Conditions of use of this website

  1. Access to the Website and its Content
    1. The Academy will endeavour to allow you uninterrupted access to this Website, but access to this Website may be disrupted, restricted, suspended or terminated at any time at its discretion or for reasons beyond its control.
    2. The Academy reserves the right to improve, change, modify, substitute or remove any information on this Website, or terminate this Website, at any time without notice.
    3. Any communication or material that you transmit to this Website or to the Academy by electronic mail or otherwise, including any comments, data, questions and suggestions, is and will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary. The Academy may preserve any such content and may disclose it to third parties if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such preservation or disclosure is necessary to comply with legal process; respond to claims that the content violates the rights of third parties; enforce these Terms and Conditions; or protect the rights, property or personal safety of this Website and its users. The provision of personal information by you and use of it by the Academy is subject to the Academy’s Privacy Policy which is incorporated in these Terms and Conditions.
    4. The Academy does not review any third-party web pages or websites hyperlinked to this Website and is not responsible for the content of any such off-site pages or sites. If you visit such off-site pages or sites through this Website, you do so at your own risk.
    5. None of the contents of this Website should be construed as legal advice.
  2. Intellectual Property
    1. Unless otherwise indicated the copyright, database right and rights of an allied nature in the material contained on the Website, together with the website design, text and graphics, and their selection and arrangement, belong to the Academy. All rights are reserved. None of this material may be reproduced or redistributed without its prior written permission. You may, however, download or print a single copy for your own non-commercial off-line viewing.
    2. You agree that any logos, names, service marks, trade marks and other devices (collectively referred to as “Marks”) pertaining to the Academy that may be displayed on this Website, including but not limited to the circular crest and motto of the Academy, “LawNet”, “LawNet Asia”, “Singapore Academy of Law”, “Academy Library”, “SAL” and “Singapore Law Reports”, are its registered and/or unregistered Marks. Nothing contained on this Website should be construed as granting, by implication, estoppel, or otherwise, any licence or right to use any of the Marks belonging to it or to third parties that are displayed on this Website without prior written permission.
    3. Certain product and company names mentioned on this Website or material displayed on this Website may be intellectual property belonging to third parties. The Academy does not warrant or represent that if you use such material you will not infringe the legal rights of these third parties.
  3. Exclusions of Liability
    1. The Academy uses reasonable endeavours to ensure that the information on the Website is accurate and to correct any errors or omissions as soon as practicable after being notified of them. However, to the extent permitted by applicable law, it disclaims all warranties and representations (whether express or implied) as to the accuracy of any information contained on this Website.
    2. Due to the nature of electronic transmission of data over the Internet, the Academy does not warrant:

      1. that access to this Website will be fault-free, secure, timely or uninterrupted, or that the Website will be free from software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment; or
      2. the accurate receipt or security of any information transmitted by you by electronic mail or otherwise to the Website or the Academy.

        Accordingly, your use of this Website, and the electronic transmission of any document or information by you to the Website or the Academy is at your own risk.
    3. The liability of the Academy and/or of any other party involved in creating, producing or delivering this Website (the ‘Web Programmer’) for any damages, claims or losses arising from an inability to access this Website, or from any use of this Website or reliance on the data transmitted using this Website, is excluded to the fullest extent permissible by law. In no event shall the Academy or the Web Programmer be liable for any anticipated savings, business, goodwill, loss of profit, opportunity, revenues or other direct, indirect, consequential, incidental or special loss or damage of any kind, whether arising from breach of contract, tort (including negligence, defamation and infringement of copyright or database right or other intellectual property rights) or otherwise arising out of use of this Website, whether or not notified of such damage or loss arising, except where such liability cannot be excluded by law.
    4. On this Website, the Academy may from time to time provide you with information on third-party suppliers and the goods and services they deal in and/or the events that they organise. Any goods, services or events not stated to be provided or organised by it are provided by such third parties over whom it has no control. Nothing on this Website should be construed as an endorsement by or recommendation from the Academy to buy any products or services featured or to participate in any events. You should satisfy yourself that you wish to purchase the goods or services or participate in the events in question before contracting with the suppliers. The suppliers will deal with you on their own terms and conditions and you should check that you agree to those terms and conditions before making any financial commitment. The Academy accepts no liability for any goods or services provided or events organised by such third-party suppliers.
    5. The Academy does not monitor, verify or endorse information submitted by third parties for posting on this Website. You should be aware that such information may be inaccurate, incomplete or out of date.
    6. The Academy endeavours to prepare the content of the Website in accordance with Singapore law. It does not warrant that the Website will satisfy the laws of any jurisdiction other than Singapore.
    7. Without limiting the foregoing, everything on this Website is provided to you “as available” and “as is”, and the Academy disclaims to the fullest extent permissible by law any representation, warranty or responsibility of any kind, either express or implied, in relation to any information, goods or services offered, accessed or obtained through this Website. It also makes no representations or warranties, express or implied, with respect to this Website, or any part of it, including any warranties of title, non-infringement of the intellectual property rights of third parties, merchantability, satisfactory quality, or fitness for any purpose.
  4. Acceptable Use
    1. You may only use the Website in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and, in any event, for lawful and proper purposes which includes complying with all applicable laws, regulations and codes of practice within Singapore or other jurisdictions from which you are accessing this Website.
    2. In particular, you agree that you will not:
      1. Upload, post, e-mail or otherwise transmit to the Website or to the Academy:

        1. Any content that is abusive, defamatory, harassing, harmful, invasive of privacy, objectionable (due to attitudes towards disability; gender; race, descent, ethnicity or nationality; religion or belief; sexual orientation; or other personal characteristics), obscene, threatening, tortious or unlawful, or otherwise use this Website in a manner which causes or may cause an infringement of the rights of any third party;
        2. Any content that you do not have a right to transmit under any law (including content that infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party), or under contractual or fiduciary relationships (such as confidential or proprietary information learned or disclosed as part of employment relationships or under non-disclosure agreements); and
        3. Any unsolicited or unauthorised advertising or promotional materials or any other form of solicitation, including but not limited to chain letters, junk mail and spam;
      2. Impersonate any person or entity, falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity, or take any action to disguise the origin of any content transmitted to the Website or to the Academy;
      3. Use any software, routine or device to interfere or attempt to interfere electronically or manually with the operation or functionality of this Website, including but not limited to uploading or making available through whatever means files containing corrupt data, software viruses or any computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment;
      4. Deface, alter or interfere with the front-end “look and feel” of this Website or the underlying software code;
      5. Take any action which imposes an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on this Website or its related infrastructure;
      6. Obtain or attempt to obtain unauthorised access, through whatever means, to any of computers, networks or servers owned or used by the Academy; and/or
      7. Collect or store personal information about other users of the Website.
    3. You may only use the Website in the capacity of an end-user. You must not, without the prior written permission of the Academy:

      1. Sell, resell or otherwise exploit; copy or reproduce for the purpose of such sale, resale or exploitation; or carry out an act preparatory to any of the foregoing acts in respect of; any portion of the Website, or documents or information obtained from the Website; or
      2. Access or use the Website for providing database, information, service-bureau or other commercial services to third parties.
    4. Without prejudice to any of our other rights, whether at law or otherwise, the Academy reserves the right to deny you access to this Website where it believes in its absolute discretion that you are in breach of any of these Terms and Conditions.
    5. You agree to indemnify and hold the Academy, its subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, employees and agents, harmless from any claim or demand, including legal fees on an indemnity basis, made by any third party due to or arising out of your use of this Website; content you submit, post to or transmit to the Website or to the Academy; or your violation of these Terms and Conditions or of the rights of any third party.
  5. Online Purchase Co-ordinator (“OPC”):
    1. An OPC is a point of contact for an organisation that serves as the designated liaison for correspondence and orders made with the Academy. An OPC account may be opened through the completion and return of the Form for Application for OPC Account with the Academy. Please email [email protected] for a copy of the said form.
    2. An OPC must be approved and appointed by the organisation by which the OPC is employed. The Academy shall not be held responsible for any unauthorised registrations via the LawNet store and shall be entitled to full payment for such registrations.
    3. In case of a change in an OPC, the organisation may transfer the existing UserID to the newly-authorised OPC and at the same time reset the account password.
    4. An OPC shall ensure that the name(s) of participant(s) selected in the LawNet store is/are correct before submitting an online registration. The Academy reserves the right to reject any request for change in participant(s) and in that event the registration fee(s) shall remain payable in full.
    5. If an OPC account is in arrears for more than ninety (90) days, the Academy reserves the right to disable the account.
    6. All other applicable terms and conditions stipulated herein shall apply to online registrations by OPC.
  6. Usage of Credit Dollars, where applicable
    1. Credit Dollars are only available to the Academy’s members. Membership is prescribed at Sections 11 - 18 of the Singapore Academy of Law Act, and any individual falling outside of the prescribed categories in Sections 11 – 18 is not a SAL member. Non-members are not entitled to participate in the Credit Dollar scheme.
    2. Credit Dollars that may be awarded in relation to marketing, publicity, or promotional events may be governed by a separate set of terms and conditions which will be made available to the Academy’ members at the appropriate juncture.
    3. Unless otherwise expressly communicated, expiry dates of Credit Dollars are not extendable. In the event that a request for refund is granted after the expiry date of the Credit Dollars used for payment, the Credit Dollars are not refundable.
  7. Miscellaneous
    1. These Terms and Conditions contain all the terms of your agreement with the Academy relating to your use of the Website, and supersede any prior agreements, if any, between you and the Academy.
    2. The Academy may modify these Terms and Conditions at any time. Such modification shall be effective immediately upon posting of the modified Terms and Conditions on this Website. Accordingly, your continued or subsequent access or use of this Website shall be deemed to be your acceptance of the modified Terms and Conditions.
    3. The Academy reserves the right to assign or novate these Terms and Conditions to any entity and such assignment or novation shall be effective upon posting on this Website. Where necessary, you agree to execute all documents as the Academy may reasonably request to perfect any such assignment or novation. Such right to assignment shall include the right to assign, novate or transfer all licenses and / or any other permits, consents and / or approvals granted under these Terms and Conditions.
    4. You agree that notices and legal process may be sent to you or served on you either personally, through the post, or by e-mail.
    5. The failure of the Academy to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms and Conditions shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, you agree that the court should endeavour to give effect to the parties’ intentions as reflected in the provision, and that the other provisions of these Terms and Conditions remain in full force and effect.
    6. The section headings in these Terms and Conditions are for convenience only and have no legal or contractual effect.
    7. Your use of this Website, any downloaded material from it and the operation of these Terms and Conditions shall be governed by, construed and interpreted in accordance with the laws of Singapore and you agree to submit to the non- exclusive jurisdiction of the Singapore Courts. The Academy reserves the right, if it sees fit, to bring proceedings in the courts of the country of your residence.
    8. The Academy and you shall not by virtue of these Terms and Conditions be deemed to be a partner or agent of each other and nothing contained in these Terms and Conditions shall be construed as creating a partnership, joint association or trust and neither party shall be authorised to represent or bind the other to third parties.
    9. None of these Terms and Conditions shall be enforceable under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act (Cap 53B) by a person who is not a party to it.

Publishing - Academy Publishing Products:

  1. Orders and Payment Methods
    1. Mode of payment for individuals shall be by VISA or MasterCard.

      For members of the Academy, please log in to the LawNet store with your user ID and password before carting out to enjoy members’ prices and to redeem available Credit Dollars.
    2. Mode of payment for organisations via an Online Purchase Co-ordinator (OPC) may be by:
      (a) VISA or MasterCard
      (b) Bank transfer
      (c) GIRO payment
      (d) Telegraphic transfer (only for foreign customers)

    5. All payments shall be made in Singapore dollars and subject to prevailing goods and services tax.
  2. Member Price for Academy Publishing Products
    1. Member price for publications shall not apply to the following:
      (a) Members who are on membership fee waiver; and
      (b) Members who are in arrears of S$500 or more for a period of 90 days or longer.
  3. Print Purchases
    1. Books ordered via the LawNet store will be shipped within one (1) work week from the date of order and upon receipt of full payment, whichever is later.
    2. Free Delivery is only applicable in Singapore, from Monday to Friday. Prices indicated on the product listing page on LawNet Store are exclusive of shipping, delivery and handling fee. Additional taxes or duties will be added where applicable.
    3. To avoid delays, please complete all mailing fields. Please be as detailed as possible and kindly include all required information in acceptable format. For all overseas deliveries, please input your city, state, town and postal code where applicable. (Important fields include Road/Street Name, Country and Postal Code, where applicable). For overseas shipping, shipping costs will be calculated upon checkout.
    4. Returns & Refunds for Print Purchases
      1. Refunds for books and journals ordered will only be made in exceptional circumstances.

        Cancellations for any reason
      2. If you cancel an order within three (3) working days from the date of order and return the book(s) to us in a saleable condition, as determined by the Academy at our discretion, the Academy will issue a credit to you for the full amount of the purchase price(s) and related GST (minus the shipping and handling charges), which you may apply towards future orders.
      3. Request for cancellations must be made to us in writing at [email protected] and will be responded to in three (3) working days. Please attach a photographs of the book(s) showing that:
        (a) the shrink wrap is still intact and
        (b) the book is in good condition.

        The Academy will arrange for collection of the book(s) from you.

        Cancellations for defective products
      4. If you have received a defective product (e.g. the book was damaged in transit), please write to us at [email protected], with photographs of the book(s) showing the damage, for further assistance.
      5. Payments made by a combination of payment methods will be refunded in the same modes and proportions that payment was made. For example, a $100 payment made with 50 credit dollars and $50 by credit card will be refunded with 50 credit dollars to the member’s LawNet Store account and $50 to the member’s credit card used to make payment.
      6. Refunds will be issued by crediting the amount to your bank account. We will need you to fill in a direct credit form. The Academy’s Accounts department will notify you via e-mail once the credit has been done.
      7. Refunds will be made within fourteen (14) days of a refund request being granted.
  4. Purchases of Digital Copies of Individual Books
    1. Accessibility & Sharing
      Digital copies of individual books purchased on the LawNet Store are accessible via the Academy Library platform. Such digital copies of books may only be purchased by individuals and not by entities and are strictly not transferable from one individual to another, nor from one individual to an entity. They also cannot be shared by multiple individuals. However, an individual who has purchased a digital copy of a book may request for access to that book to be transferred to another email address belonging to that individual, by writing to [email protected]. Upon receipt of such a request, the Academy will consider the request on a case-by-case basis and shall not be obliged to grant the request.
    2. Refunds for Digital Copies of Individual Books
      1. In general, the Academy does not offer refunds for cancellations of purchased digital copies of individual books. Any request for a refund may be made to the Academy by writing to us at [email protected] and shall be considered on a case-by-case basis at the full and final discretion of the Academy and will be responded to in three (3) working days.
      2. Payments made by a combination of payment methods will be refunded in the same modes and proportions that payment was made. For example, a $100 payment made with 50 credit dollars and $50 by credit card will be refunded with 50 credit dollars to the member’s LawNet Store account and $50 to the member’s credit card used to make payment.   5. Claims

    Please e-mail us at [email protected] if you have not received your book(s) after:
    (a) (a) One (1) week from the date of payment made through the LawNet Store bookshop or through GIRO; or
    (b) Four (4) weeks from the date of payment if payment was made through e-invoice.

  6. Disclaimer

    Each of these products is provided "as is" and in its present state and condition. No warranty, representation, condition, undertaking or term, express or implied, statutory or otherwise, as to condition, quality, availability, durability, performance, non-infringement, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose or use of the product or otherwise is given or assumed by us, and all such warranties, representations, conditions, undertakings and terms are excluded to the fullest extent permitted by law. General Terms and Conditions for Seminars/Conferences and Training Workshops

  1. Contents and Materials
    1. The contents and materials provided to participants are the intellectual property of the Academy and/or its partners, consultants, trainers and guest speakers. Contents and materials provided may not be disseminated or reproduced in any format, and are for participants’ personal, educational and non-commercial use only.
    2. In addition, Seminars/Conferences and Training Workshops (collectively referred to as “Events”) will be monitored for unauthorised recording. By attending the Academy’s Event or entering the Event premises, you agree not to record or digitise any parts of any presentation at the Event. If you attempt to use a recording device, you consent to your immediate removal from the premises and forfeiture of the device.
  2. Personal Data
    1. When you participate in the Academy’s Event, you are participating in an event where photography, video and audio recording may occur.

      1. By participating in the Academy’s Event, you consent to interview(s), photography, audio recording, video recording (“Personal Data”) and its/their release, publication, exhibition, or reproduction to be used for news, web casts, promotional purposes, telecasts, advertising, inclusion on web sites, or for any other purpose(s) that the Academy, its vendors, partners, affiliates and/or representatives deems fit to use. You release the Academy, its officers and employees, and each and all persons involved from any liability connected with the taking, recording, digitising, or publication of interviews, photographs, computer images, video and/or sound recordings.
      2. By entering the Event premises, you waive all rights you may have to any claims for payment or royalties in connection with any exhibition, streaming, webcasting, televising, or other publication of these materials, regardless of the purpose or sponsoring of such exhibiting, broadcasting, webcasting, or other publication irrespective of whether a fee for admission or sponsorship is charged. You also waive any right to inspect or approve any photo, video, or audio recording taken by the Academy or the person or entity designated to do so by the Academy.
      3. You may contact our Data Protection Officer at [email protected] for further details on our data protection policy, including how you may access and correct your Personal Data or withdraw consent to the collection, use or disclosure of your personal data at any time.
  3. Registration
    1. To avoid delays in registration, please ensure that all registration details are accurately provided.
    2. Registration closes on the closing date as stipulated on the registration page or when all seats are filled, whichever is earlier.
    3. Event fees are due and payable upon registration and must be received prior to the first day of the Event. For government agencies and statutory boards, a 30-day credit term is granted.
    4. Registration will only be confirmed upon receipt of full payment of course fees. Registration is confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability of seats. An email confirming your registration will be sent to the email address provided. If you do not receive confirmation of your registration within twenty-four (24) hours of payment, please contact [email protected].
    5. The Academy reserves the right to refuse registration or admission of any participant. If you are unable to attend, you may request to substitute the registrant, subject to the terms and conditions set out in the paragraphs on Substitution for Training Workshops or for Seminars/Conferences in their respective sections.

  4. Payments
    1. Acceptable modes of payment are as indicated below:
      1. For individuals :
        a. VISA or MasterCard
        b. Credit Dollars (for the Academy’s members only - please log in using your SAL ID before carting out)
        c. SkillsFuture Credits (For more information, please refer to https://www.myskillsfuture.gov.sg/).
        (i) In the event of cancellations / deferment of the Training Workshop, participants are responsible for cancelling any submitted SFC claims before the Training Workshop start date.
      2. For organisations via an Online Purchase Co-ordinator (OPC):
        a. VISA or MasterCard
        b. Bank Transfer
        c. GIRO payment (the amount due will be deducted on the 25th of each month from the designated bank account. If it falls on a Saturday, Sunday or Public Holiday, the deduction will be made on the next working day.)

Training Workshops

This part applies only to Training Workshops.

  1. Cancellations and Amendments by the Academy
    1. The Academy reserves the right to cancel any Training Workshops or change the venue, trainers, speakers, dates, or make changes to the Training Workshops itself or its relevant fees, should circumstances so warrant (in the Academy’s sole discretion). If a Training Workshop is cancelled, participants who have paid the Training Workshop fees will be refunded. The Academy will endeavour to inform participants of cancellations as soon as possible.
  2. Requests for Cancellation and Refund
    1. All applicable Training Workshops fees are non-refundable in the following circumstances:
      a. if a participant fails to attend the Training Workshop that has already commenced for any reason whatsoever; or
      b. if a participant arrives late or fails to attend any part of the Training Workshop.
    2. To request for a cancellation of a confirmed registration, please email [email protected].
    3. Requests for cancellation and refund will be considered on a case-by-case basis. A sum of S$21.80 (inclusive of 9% GST and referred to as the “Administration Fee”) will be levied as administrative charges for processing a refund request regardless of whether the request is eventually granted. If a request is denied, the participant agrees to pay the Administrative Fee to the Academy within fourteen (14) days of being notified.
    4. The following refund policies apply:

      1. Subject to para 2.4.4, no refund will be given if the cancellation request is received by the Academy less than three (3) working days before the first day of the Training Workshop.
      2. Subject to para 2.4.4, 50% of the registration fees, less the Administrative Fee in para 2.3, will be refunded if the request is received by the Academy within five (5) but not less than three (3) working days before the first day of the Training Workshop.
      3. Subject to para 2.4.4, 100% of the registration fees, less the Administrative Fee in para 2.3, will be refunded if the request is received by the Academy five (5) or more working days before the first day of the Training Workshop.
      4. Refunds may be considered by the Academy on a case-by-case basis for the following reasons:
        a. medical leave on one or more of the Training Workshop days;
        b. Court hearings / arbitration proceedings on one or more of the Training Workshop days; or
        c. Compassionate grounds.

        Documentary proof of the reason for the request for cancellation and refund will be required when submitting the request.
    5. All cancellation and refund requests are subject to applicable SkillsFuture refund terms, where applicable.
  3. Substitution of registered participants
    1. Subject to the substitute registrant’s eligibility, registrations are transferable to individuals within the same fee category at least three (3) working days prior to the first day of the Training Workshop. Any discount such as early bird prices and member rates enjoyed by the participant will continue to be enjoyed by the substitute registrant if the substitute registrant is eligible for the discount.
    2. Please email [email protected] at least three (3) working days prior to the start date of the Training Workshop with the following details:
      a. Name of participant
      b. Participant’s membership status (member / non-member)
      c. Name of substitute registrant
      d. Substitute registrant’s membership status (member / non-member)
    3. Substitutions can only made in respect of the entire Training Workshop and not on a modular basis or for different segments or days.
    4. The Academy will not issue fresh invoices to the substitute registrant upon a valid substitution, and will not entertain requests for refunds to the original registrant or accept payments from the substitute registrant.
    5. Substitutions are subject to applicable SkillsFuture refund terms, where applicable.
  4. External funding (e.g. Singapore Skillfuture funding, funding from the Maritime Cluster Fund, etc)

    Participants that are unable to meet all applicable funding requirements set forth by the funding body will be liable to pay to the Academy the amount of funding that would have been paid to the Academy had the participant successfully met all applicable funding requirements.

  5. Certificates

    Softcopy certificates will be issued and only to participants who have attended at least 80% of the Training Workshop.

  6. Misc

    All Terms and Conditions under this section (Training Workshops) are subject to and shall be superseded by any terms and conditions stated on the Training Workshop registration page on the LawNet store.

Seminars/Conferences

This section applies only to Seminars/Conferences.

  1. Cancellations and Amendments by the Academy
    1. The Academy reserves the right to cancel any Seminar/Conference or change the venue, speakers, dates, or make changes to the Seminar/Conference itself or its relevant Seminar/Conference fees, should circumstances so warrant (in the Academy’s sole discretion). If a Seminar/Conference is cancelled, participants who have paid the Seminar/Conference fees will be refunded. The Academy will endeavour to inform participants of cancellations as soon as possible.
  2. Requests for Cancellation and Refund
    1. All applicable Seminar/Conference fees are non-refundable.
    2. To request for a cancellation of a confirmed registration on a case-by-case basis, please email [email protected].
    3. Requests for cancellation and refund will be considered on a case-by-case basis. A sum of S$21.80 (inclusive of 9% GST and referred to as the “Administration Fee”) will be levied as administrative charges for processing a refund request regardless of whether the request is eventually granted. If a request is denied, the participant agrees to pay the Administrative Fee to the Academy within fourteen (14) days of being notified.
  3. Substitution of registered participants
    1. Subject to the substitute registrant’s eligibility, registrations are transferable to individuals within the same fee category at least three (3) working days prior to the first day of the Seminar/Conference. Any discount enjoyed by the participant will continue to be enjoyed by the substitute registrant if the substitute registrant is eligible for the discount.
    2. Please email [email protected] at least three (3) working days prior to the start date of the Seminar/Conference with the following details:
      a. Name of participant
      b. Participant’s membership status (member / non-member)
      c. Name of substitute registrant
      d. Substitute registrant’s membership status (member / non-member)
    3. If a non-member is nominated to attend in place of a member, the fee difference must be paid before the commencement of the Seminar/Conference for the substitution to be valid.
    4. Substitutions can only made in respect of the entire Seminar/Conference and not on a modular basis or for different segments or days of the Seminar/Conference.
    5. The Academy will not issue fresh invoices to the substitute registrant upon a valid substitution, and will not entertain requests for refunds to the original registrant or accept payments from the substitute registrant.

Overseas Events

This section applies only to Seminars, Conferences, Workshops and/or other Events to be held other than in the Republic of Singapore (together “Overseas Event(s)”). The Section above, “General Terms and Conditions for Seminars/Conferences and Training Workshops” shall also apply to this section.

  1. Cancellations and Amendments by the Academy
    1. The Academy reserves the right to cancel any Overseas Event(s) or change the venue, speakers, dates, or make changes to Overseas Event itself or its relevant Overseas Event fees, should circumstances so warrant (in the Academy’s sole discretion). If an Overseas Event is cancelled, participants who have paid the Overseas Event fees may be refunded based on applicable circumstances and at the Academy’s sole discretion. The Academy will endeavour to inform participants of cancellations as soon as possible.
  2. Requests for Cancellation and Refund
    1. All applicable Overseas Event fees are non-refundable.
    2. To request for a cancellation of a confirmed registration on a case-by-case basis, which shall in all cases be subject to the Academy’s sole discretion, please email [email protected].
    3. 2.3 Requests for cancellation and refund will be considered on a case-by-case basis. A sum of S$50.00 (exclusive of 9% GST) and referred to as the “Administration Fee”) will be levied as administrative charges for processing a refund request regardless of whether the request is eventually granted. If a request is denied, the participant agrees to pay the Administrative Fee to the Academy within fourteen (14) days of being notified. The Academy reserves the right to deduct such Administration Fee from any registration fee, deposit, or sum already paid by the participant.
  3. Substitution of registered participants
    1. Subject to the substitute registrant’s eligibility, registrations are transferable to individuals within the same fee category at least fourteen (14) working days prior to the first day of the Overseas Event. Any discount enjoyed by the participant will continue to be enjoyed by the substitute registrant if the substitute registrant is eligible for the discount.
    2. 3.2 Please email [email protected] at least fourteen (14) working days prior to the start date of the Overseas Event with the following details:
      a. Name of participant
      b. Participant’s membership status (member / non-member)
      c. Name of substitute registrant
      d. Substitute registrant’s membership status (member / non-member)

  4. Travel Arrangements
    1. Unless expressly and specifically provided otherwise, the Academy bears no responsibility or liability for any travel arrangements to the location of the Overseas Event(s), accommodation, flight tickets, meals, personal expenses or other expenditures of such nature, which shall be solely arranged by the participant.
    2. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Academy may require the participant to provide such information such as the participant’s name, email address, telephone number, medical history including any allergies, dietary requirements and any other information as required by the Academy in order to facilitate the Overseas Event(s). All such information collected shall be collected in accordance with the Academy’s Privacy Policy.
    3. The participant fully accepts and acknowledges, that participation in such Overseas Event(s) is not without risk. The participant therefore undertakes to fully indemnify the Academy (including any of its officers, employees, or such other personnel, contractors, suppliers, consultants, advisers and agents) against any claims for loss and damage to personal property and/or for any loss or consequential loss or claims arising from the participant’s participation in the Overseas Event(s).
    4. The participant shall comply with all laws and regulations of the country(ies) visited and shall comply with all instructions of the Academy relating to the safety and organisation of the Overseas Event(s). If, in the Academy’s sole opinion, the participant is behaving in such a manner as to cause danger, distress or annoyance to others or cause damage to property, the participant’s participation in the Overseas Event(s) may be terminated by the Academy without any liability to the participant. In such event, the Academy shall have no liability to the participant and shall not be responsible for making any refunds, paying any compensation or meeting any costs or expenses incurred by the participant as a result. Furthermore, the participant undertakes to indemnify the Academy for the full amount of any claim (including all legal costs) made against the Academy by any third party, or any costs and expenses that the Academy may incur, as a result of the participant’s conduct.
    5. It shall be the sole responsibility of the participant to fulfil the passport, visa, health formalities, and other travel and immigration requirements applicable to the participant’s itinerary. While the Academy may provide general information about passport and visa requirements in relation to the Overseas Event, this shall be for guidance only and the Academy shall incur no liability for the same. The participant shall further indemnify the Academy in relation to any costs, expenses, claims and/or liabilities which the Academy may incur as a result of the participant’s failure to comply with any passport, visa, immigration requirements or health formalities.

Academy Library Terms of Use

Access and subscriptions to Academy Library are provided by LawNet Technology Services Pte Ltd (“LTS”). Academy Library is hosted by the Singapore Academy of Law (“the Academy”) on its LawNet platform.

The following terms govern your use of any material, regardless of whether materials are made available as part of a subscription to Academy Library or an individual digital book purchase made on the LawNet store, made available by the Academy on Academy Library (“AcadLib”). By accessing AcadLib, you will be deemed to have given your confirmation that you have read and agreed to be bound by these terms of use.

You are permitted online access to AcadLib via a user ID and password. You are responsible for maintaining confidentiality of your account and password and for restricting access to your account, and you agree to accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account and password.

Except as expressly permitted under these terms of use, you are not permitted to:

  1. engage in systematic or excessive downloading or printing of materials from AcadLib, either manually or through the use of technical means;
  2. store materials from AcadLib in any form or medium in a retrieval system;
  3. create a database (electronic or otherwise) that includes materials downloaded or otherwise obtained from AcadLib that allows for access by multiple users;
  4. copy, reverse engineer, disassemble, derive source code, modify, or create compilations or derivative works of the material from AcadLib;
  5. use AcadLib to develop a similar information resource in any media (print, electronic or otherwise) for commercial use;
  6. use AcadLib in any manner that may infringe any copyright or intellectual property rights of SAL, LTS or their data providers;
  7. remove or alter publisher copyright notices, author's names or any other means of identification in the materials on AcadLib; and
  8. use AcadLib in any way that may infringe third-party privacy or other rights, is unlawful or that may bring SAL and/or LTS into disrepute.

Users do not acquire any rights or interest whatsoever in AcadLib or materials contained therein, including trademarks, logos, service marks and other content. Nothing in AcadLib may be construed as granting by implication or otherwise any right or licence to use any AcadLib trademark in any manner or form.

AcadLib may provide links to other websites ("Linked Sites") that may be of relevance and interest to users. Neither SAL nor LTS has control over, and is not responsible in any way for the Linked Sites or their content and accepts no responsibility whatsoever for any damage you may incur from using the Linked Sites (including any virus, spyware, malware, worms, errors or damaging material contained in the Linked Sites) or the availability of any content on the Linked Sites, and you hereby irrevocably waive any claim whatsoever against the Academy and/or LTS with respect to the Linked Sites.

Third party web sites may link to AcadLib. Such links do not necessarily mean that AcadLib, the Academy, or LTS is associated or affiliated with the third party or its goods and services. Your reliance on any third party statements of association or affiliation with the Academy, LTS or AcadLib or approval of SAL, LTS or AcadLib is at your own risk.

AcadLib is provided on an "as is basis" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of title, or implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. The use of AcadLib is at your own risk and access to AcadLib may be interrupted and may not be error-free. Neither the Academy, LTS nor anyone else involved in creating, producing or delivering the materials contained in AcadLib shall be liable in any way for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising out of your use or inability to use AcadLib.

Digital copies of books may be purchased on the LawNet store and accessed via the AcadLib platform. Such digital copies of books may only be purchased by individuals and not by entities and are strictly not transferable from one individual to another. They also cannot be shared by multiple individuals. However, an individual who has purchased a digital copy of a book may request for access to that book to be transferred to another email address belonging to that individual, by writing to [email protected]. Upon receipt of such a request, the Academy and/or LTS will consider the request on a case-by-case basis and shall not be obliged to grant the request.

These terms of use may be modified at any time. Such modifications become effective immediately upon the posting of the modified terms on AcadLib. By continuing to use AcadLib, you shall be deemed to have accepted the entirety of the modified terms.

If for any reason, the Academy and/or LTS believe that you have not complied with these terms of use, the Academy and/or LTS reserve the right in their sole discretion to suspend or terminate your access to AcadLib immediately without notice, in addition to any other available remedies.

The provision of personal information by you and use of it by the Academy and/or LTS is subject to the Academy’s Privacy Policy, which is incorporated in these terms of use.

In the event any of these terms of use are held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remainder of these terms shall remain valid and enforceable to the fullest extent permissible under the law.

These terms of use shall be governed by Singapore law and the courts of Singapore shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
