Understanding what drives client loyalty and building a successful legal practice are essential for young lawyers seeking to grow in the profession. This session will take the form of a panel discussion, featuring experienced practitioners and in-house counsel who will share practical insights on what it takes to succeed in today’s legal landscape.
The panellists will explore key factors such as responsiveness, personal chemistry, cultural awareness, and strategic career development. Discussions will cover how younger lawyers can build strong client relationships, attract and retain foreign clients, transition into private or barristers’ practice, and grow a successful corporate law career. In-house counsel will also offer perspectives on what corporate clients value in their legal teams.

Mr Jonathan Muk
Jonathan is an Associate Director with LVM Law Chambers LLC. He specialises in cases involving fraud, investigations, and uncovering of fraudulent conduct. He also has experience working on commodity and shipping disputes.
Over the years, Jonathan has successfully represented multinational companies, major oil trading companies, technology unicorns, insurers, and listed companies. Jonathan has also successfully represented clients in applying for and obtaining search against wrongdoers who have misappropriated confidential information.
Jonathan is passionate about making practice more sustainable and fulfilling. He has successfully developed mentoring and development opportunities for younger practitioners and hopes to continue to build future opportunities for the Bar. |

Ms Joan Lim
Joan Lim-Casanova is a Partner and Director of K&L Gates Straits Law LLC. She is a member of the Commercial Disputes practice group. She has more than 15 years of experience in international dispute resolution and does both litigation and arbitration that arise from diverse subject matters such as trusts, insurance, infrastructure, and renewable energy.
She has acted for clients in different sectors such as construction, investment, banking, and commodities. Joan also regularly acts for and advises Chinese private and state-owned entities to manage and avoid disputes in Asia (including Singapore, China, Indonesia, and Vietnam).
Joan has been consistently recognized by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific Guide as a Rising Star and Next-Generation Partner. She takes a keen interest in the client's business and clients have commended that Joan has a “good grasp of the commercial realities” and “complete mastery of all the facts and events.”
Prior to joining the firm, Joan has served as a partner at a Singapore law firm which was in a formal law alliance with a Magic Circle firm.

Mr Jordan Tan
Jordan graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2008 with First Class Honours, receiving the Adrian Clarke Memorial Medal and Singapore Academy of Law Award as the top final-year law student.
He regularly appears at all court levels and has twice been appointed amicus curiae, including in a landmark decision by a 3-Judge High Court chaired by the Chief Justice on judicial mercy. He has acted successfully in complex commercial disputes, including as lead counsel for alleged majority shareholders of a family business worth over S$100 million and for an international bank facing claims of hundreds of millions.
Jordan is ranked in Chambers Asia-Pacific 2024 for Dispute Resolution: Litigation and described as a “well-reputed name” with an “excellent grasp of the law.” He is also listed as a “Litigation Star” in Benchmark Litigation 2023 and in Legal500, which praised him as “smart, professional, persuasive… a future SC.”
A former Justices’ Law Clerk and Assistant Registrar, he currently serves on the SAL’s Law Reform and Professional Affairs Committees and was appointed to the CEA Appeals Board (2022–2025) by the Minister for National Development. |

Mr Khoo Ken Hui
As a senior in-house lawyer with more than 20 years of experience, he has deep transactional experience with expertise in cross-border M&A, private equity, joint ventures and other investment-related work. Among his key responsibilities as MD, he oversees the legal team that manages legal and regulatory risks which impact Temasek and its portfolio and business. He also works closely with investment teams in developing and building a resilient portfolio and ecosystem through partnerships, innovation and other strategies. He previously managed the legal teams supporting Temasek’s investments and institutional projects in India and the Singapore/ SE Asia and ANZ markets.
Prior to joining Temasek in 2013, Ken Hui was in private practice, working in the London and Singapore offices of Norton Rose (now Norton Rose Fulbright), one of the leading global law firms.
He is an English qualified lawyer. |

Mr Nicholas Soh
Nicholas specializes in private M&A, with a focus on private equity, joint ventures, and venture capital. He frequently advises venture capital investors, corporate venture arms, and startups.
Chambers Asia-Pacific describes him as “transaction counsel for startups and venture capital investors” across early and late-stage investments. Clients praise his “high level of service” and ability to “calibrate advice to goals while working collaboratively with opposing counsel.”
Recognized as a Band 5 practitioner for Startups & Emerging Companies (Chambers Asia-Pacific) and a Next Generation Partner for Start-up & Venture Capital – Local Firms (The Legal 500 Asia-Pacific), Nicholas is also recommended by Who’s Who Legal for Southeast Asia – M&A and won the Lexology Client Award 2024 for Singapore M&A.
He is a member of the Venture Capital Model Investment Agreements (VIMA) working group. In 2018, he was seconded to a magic circle firm's Hong Kong corporate department.
