D2E: Data Privacy and Protection

This 3-hour session on Data Privacy and Protection is part of the Data and Digital Economy Law Series.

 

It will look at the Personal Data Protection Act and how it governs the use, management and protection of personal data. It also touches upon cross-border transfer and protection management of data in relation to the digital economy. The faculty will refer to case studies and real-life examples of breaches in consent obligations and data protection, obligations of data intermediaries, leveraging online platforms to collect data and more.

Steve is a Partner and Deputy Head in Rajah & Tann Singapore’s TMT (Technology, Media and Telecommunications) practice group. Steve practices Data Protection, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Intellectual Property, and Digital Media / Entertainment law.  

 

He has been recognized as a leading lawyer for TMT work in the Asia Pacific Legal 500; the AsiaLaw Profiles; the Practical Law Company Which Lawyer; and Chambers Asia Pacific. Steve is also cited as a leading lawyer for Technology law, Media law and/or Information Technology law in Best Lawyers, and in Who’s Who Legal: Data for Telecoms & Media, Data Security, and Data Privacy & Protection. Steve co-founded and is a Director of (i) Rajah & Tann Technologies Pte Ltd, a company that provides technical solutions to help organisations navigate the digital economy such as contract management, e-discovery, e-learning; and (ii) Rajah & Tann Cybersecurity Pte Ltd, a company specialising in cybersecurity and data breach incident response. 

 

Steve is Adjunct Professor of the Faculty of Law of the National University of Singapore, teaching Privacy & Data Protection law.

Yi Lin is a Senior Managing Counsel for Privacy & Data Protection in Mastercard, covering privacy and data protection matters for Asia Pacific. Yi Lin previously practised law with an international law firm, specializing in information technology matters. 

Yi Lin is also Certified Information Privacy Professional, a Certified Information Privacy Manager, a Certified Information Privacy Technologist, and is also a Fellow of Information Privacy
