D2E: e-Commerce

This 3-hour session is part of the Data and Digital Economy Law Series. It covers existing laws relating to electronic contracts (and transactions in general) as well as the legality of electronic signatures and records. In particular, the rights and liabilities of Internet and e-Commerce intermediaries will also be examined in the Singapore context with some comparative analysis to the US and EU position. Participants will also be taken through the end-to-end process of e-commerce transactions - from pre-purchase activities, to purchasing and payment procedures, to post-purchase activities - and the legal issues and business considerations relating to these activities at each stage of the process.

Ms Gladys Chun 
General Counsel, Lazada 

  

As the General Counsel of Lazada Group, Gladys Chun leads the Legal and Compliance department, and is responsible for all such matters across the countries in which Lazada Group has a local presence. Gladys started her career in the corporate, commercial and tax practice at Baker McKenzie before moving in-house into retail, franchising and now technology. As the Group continues to expand, Gladys provides both the management team and relevant business units with strategic guidance in commercial and risk management.   Over the years, Gladys’ leadership, initiative and legal expertise has earned her an extensive list of regional and global accolades.  Gladys graduated with a Bachelor of Law (LLB) and Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Corporate Finance) from the University of Western Australia.  

Associate Professor Warren B Chik
Yong Pung How School of Law, Singapore Management University &
Deputy Director, Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Data Governance

 

Warren Chik is an Associate Professor with the Yong Pung How School of Law at Singapore Management University. He is also the Deputy Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Data Governance. Warren researches, writes and teaches primarily in the areas of infocomm technology law, Internet intermediaries law, privacy and data protection. He also leads the business law module for the University. 

 

He graduated from NUS Law School in 1996 and has Masters degrees from UCL (UK) and Tulane (US) with specialisations in comparative and international law. Warren practiced in criminal and international law with the AGC criminal and international divisions before joining Academia. 

 

He also passed the bar in Singapore, the UK and New York. Warren is the co-author of Information and Communications Technology Law in Singapore (Academy Publishing, 2020) which is the first textbook on the subject in Singapore and has published many articles in the area in reputable local and international journals including the Singapore Academy of Law Journal, Computer Law & Security Review and the International Journal of Law & Technology.
