D2E: Fintech and Regtech Regulation and Digital Asset Management and Protection

This 3-hour session is part of the Data and Digital Economy Law Series. It focuses on the regulation of cryptocurrencies and digital tokens, AI and data analytics in finance and technology risk management in finance. Participants can expect to learn about the taxonomy of crypto assets, risks in the crypto ecosystem and MAS’ approaches, guidelines and laws governing the use of AI in finance, technology risk management, cyber hygiene and outsourcing.

Mr Joey Pang 

Senior Vice-President, Group Legal, Compliance & Secretariat, DBS Bank 

 

Joey is a technology lawyer and legal technologist with DBS Bank. In his day to day work, Joey spends his time between three broad areas vis., (a) legal and compliance advisory on the bank’s technology, procurement, and anti-money laundering initiatives, (b) advocacy efforts on regulatory issues relating to emergent technology such as data innovation, data ethics and AI governance, and (c) transformation projects within the bank that brings about new capabilities and ways of working for legal and compliance functions. 

 

Beyond his work at DBS, Joey is actively involved in a number of professional committees, bodies and engagement. He is the deputy chair for the AI Ethics and Governance Certification Committee convened by the Singapore Computer Society and IMDA, vice-chair of the Cybersecurity and Data Protection Committee and a member of the Continuing Professional Development and Information Technology committees of the Law Society of Singapore.  

 

Joey also serves on the management committee of AsiaDPO, and is appointed to the Expert Panel of SMU’s Centre for AI and Data Governance. 

Assistant Professor Nydia Remolina

Yong Pung How School of Law, Singapore Management University

 

Nydia Remolina is an Assistant Professor of Law at Singapore Management University where she leads the research group on FinTech at the Centre for AI and Data Governance. Nydia focuses her research on the intersection of law, finance and technology. She has more than 10 years of experience in the financial sector, has been a Senior Advisor to the OECD. and she worked at Sullivan & Cromwell’s New York Office.

 

Nydia has a Master in the Science of Law (JSM) from Stanford University, and is completing her PhD in Law at the University of Zurich. Nydia’s research has been published in internationally recognised peer review journals, cited in media outlets such as Forbes, and featured on the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance, the Columbia Law School Blue Sky Blog, the Oxford Business Law Blog, and the Machine Lawyering Blog of the Chinese University of Hong-Kong.
