The Singapore Academy of Law (‘’SAL”), in collaboration with the Singapore International Commercial Court (“SICC”), is organising the Singapore International Commercial Court Conference 2025 (“SICCC”) on 14 and 15 January 2025 at the ParkRoyal Collection Marina Bay Singapore. The SICCC marks a special and significant milestone in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the SICC since its establishment.

The theme of the SICCC is “Transnational Commerce in a Shifting World” and will consider issues relevant to the transnational system of commercial justice within today’s globalised world, highlighting the pivotal role of international commercial courts as neutral arbiters and enablers of change. This webinar provides an overview of the UNIDROIT Principle on Digital Assets and Private Law, discusses varying definitions of digital assets and concepts such as control and possession, examines property law treatment of digital assets in different jurisdictions, as well as the creation of security interests over such assets, focusing on China and Singapore, with general reference to other common law and civil law jurisdictions.

Tackling the question of all questions, i.e., whether cryptoassets are property in the eyes of the law, Cryptoassets and Property Law (Singapore edition):

• considers evolving definitions that impact dealing in various forms of cryptoassets;
• delves into how the courts in Singapore are shaping the contours of case law in this largely unregulated space;
• analyses gaps in judicial responses and the existing statutory framework for treating cryptoassets as property; and

Cryptoassets and Civil Procedure Law (Singapore edition) examines how Singapore’s civil procedure law responds to the advent of cryptoassets.

It is divided into 13 parts. Each part is dedicated to a problem that a party to a civil proceeding before the Singapore courts may face. The solution provided by Singapore’s civil procedure law is discussed, as well as an analysis of how well that solution responds to the advent of cryptoassets. Given the borderless nature of cryptoassets, this publication also discusses the enforcement or recognition of Singapore court judgments by the courts of foreign jurisdictions.
