In this talk, Dr Andrew Godwin (Associate Professor of Melbourne Law School) will share his stories of 15 years in private practice (including ten years as a foreign lawyer with an international firm in Shanghai), 15 years in academia and 3.5 years in law reform work, and discuss with the audience on topics such as how today’s lawyers can best maximise career opportunities in a wide range of roles.

Over the course of his career, Dr Andrew Godwin (Associate Professor of Melbourne Law School) has spent 15 years in private practice (10 of which were spent as a foreign lawyer with an international firm in Shanghai, China), 15 years in academia and 3.5 years in law reform where he recently completed a term as Special Counsel and Acting General Counsel of the Australian Law Reform Commission.

 

 

In this talk, Andrew will share his perspective on a range of issues based on his diverse experience across the legal industry, including how lawyers today can best maximise career opportunities, why they should make the most use of the various continuing professional development programmes available, and how they can adapt to contemporary challenges confronting the legal profession. He will also discuss the role of bodies such as the Asian Business Law Institute where he is an Advisory Board member in promoting the convergence of business laws and strengthening Singapore’s status as a regional and global legal hub.

No, this event is exclusively in-person as we would like attendees to have face-to-face exchanges with Andrew.

Yes, attendees are invited to stay on for light refreshments after the event concludes at 6:30pm.

All are welcome, although younger lawyers and law students, as well as Singaporean lawyers who are considering careers opportunities overseas, may benefit in particular.
