Beyond Legal Advice: Leading High-Performance Teams

This 1-day program is designed to help participants strengthen their strategic thinking, feedback delivery, and team leadership skills through a blend of case discussions, experiential activities, and group reflection. Using case studies and simulation, participants will explore the challenges of balancing individual performance with organizational culture, making decisions under pressure, and leading diverse teams effectively. By the end of the session, they will leave with actionable insights and tools to elevate their leadership impact and foster high-performing teams in their professional contexts. By the end of the session, participants will be able to: - Demonstrate strategic leadership skills by applying on-the-job learning approaches and reflecting on personal leadership challenges - Analyze and address leadership dilemmas through case discussions - Practice effective feedback techniques that support growth, accountability, and constructive dialogue. - Strengthen teamwork and problem-solving skills by collaborating in high-pressure simulations and recognizing team dynamics. - Apply strategies for building effective teams to enhance trust, commitment, and results.

 

Written Assessment
Participants (self- or company-sponsored) who apply for Singapore SkillsFuture (SSG) Funding are required to complete an open-book assessment at the end of the course. Those who do not pass the assessment will be liable to pay SAL the amount of SSG Funding received.

Patrick T. Gibbons

 

Patrick is the Jefferson Smurfit Professor of Strategic Management and until recently headed up the Executive Development programmes at the UCD College of Business. He graduated with a Ph.D. in Strategic Planning and Policy from the University of Pittsburgh. Prior educational qualifications at bachelor’s and master’s levels were gained at UCD.

 

He has presented academic papers at over 80 international conferences, has published two books and his articles have been published in leading academic journals.

 

Before entering academia, Patrick worked in a number of financial and corporate strategy roles with KPMG; the Jefferson Smurfit Group; An Post (The Irish Postal Service) and The Investment Bank of Ireland.

 

Patrick is a Visiting Professor at Nanyang Business School (Singapore), the School for Executive Education and Development (SEED) in Budapest and at the State University of New York-Albany. He previously held visiting positions at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the European School for Management of Technology  (ESMT-Berlin) and Peking University.

 

Between 2008 and 2013 he was a member of both the UCD Governing Authority and its principal sub-Committee, the Finance, Remuneration and Asset Management Committee (FRAMC).  He was also the Vice-President of the University, Staff and Administration between 2004-2006, overseeing a period of significant structural change at the institution. He also served as Associate Dean-Academic of UCD Business School between 2007 and 2011.
